I know someone who is feeding feral cats and the kittens all have an upper respritory infection. There are several though who's eyes?

are" popping". Her aunt said there is some sort of a disease that causes this. By the way, she has medication and is working all of the time to get their eyes cleared up. Also, some of the kittens fur looks rather bad.

Any one with any idea of what could be causing the eyes to "pop"????

The upper respiratory infection is likely causing the eye popping. The worse the infection gets the more the tissues swell and seem to pop right out of the eye opening. It could be herpes or calici or another disease. Once the cats are infected, it is not possible to actually cure them of the virus. You can control and treat the symptoms but they are life long problems. I actually had a conversation with a vet about this and was told that the eyes would likely be so damaged if left untreated (properly) that the eye would have to be removed - then again she said that if this was a barn cat or feral cat the eye would become so infected it would be destroyed and would just atrophy and the cat might not be the worse for it. But they are still carrying a contagious virus and always will be. Not that this means they are unsaveable but anyone taking one should be prepared for vet visits.

I took 2 of the kittens to the vet a couple of weeks age. The vet is not the greatest. I will look up these diseases that you mentioned.

The spay and neuter group has these kittens best interest at heart. The vet said that when the kittens get spayed or neutered, then they can remove the eye at the same time.

Only a vet knows. She needs to catch the kittens and take them to a vet immediately and try to tame them ASAP.

Call your local television station and report this, before everyone in your town and then the whole country dies from this possibly mutant virus.
