Should I get GTA IV or GTA V? And why should I get that one and not the other?

So I wanna get GTA, but I don't know which one to choose. I'm mainly looking into the multiplayer part, so which GTA will be better for that and why?

Few Q's:

I heard GTA V, you can die in like two shots or something, so it gets rid of the fun out of it. Is that true?

And will it be less enjoyable with random people? Does it take the fun out of it, with people maybe just being annoying as hell or something? Or have you experienced something else with random people?

Can you play GTA V online right away? And if yes, is it a bad idea to start playing online first?

Also, are there cops and crooks in GTA V?

One more thing... I also want to know which game is better OVERALL, so which one?

    GTA IV is older but the single-player is still as good as it was. The online is pretty empty at this point though. GTA V has a great campaign so you'd be missing out if you skipped it. Plus if you play through the campaign first you'll be more experienced when you go online. You can buy body armour which gives you a bit more of a chance in difficult situations.

    Random people depends. With any game online sometimes you can just encounter a bad crowd. Some communities are better than others. It should go fine most of the time though. Troublemakers can end up being put into "Bad Sport" lobbies where they can only play against other annoying people.

    Gta 5 has a greater online gta 4 was a let down gta 5 was great and heist would be nice

    GTA V. More stuff to do and better online multiplayer.

    gta 5 is definitely better than gta iv.i would go with gta 5 hands down.

    GTA V BY FAR. In online you can rob stores with people, by tanks and sports cars, where there is hardly anything in GTA IV and not many people are on it. And yes you die a little faster. The story mode in GTA V is way better, cool characters and everything.
