What could be wrong with this motor When in idle it sounds like its going to cut off but it keeps running?
Ok this is a 1987 evenrude motor the other day i wanted to go fishing but i could not ge it to start in the water when i tryed it at home it started right up .. now i dont remember if it sas like this before but when is on idle it sounds like is going to stop like it speeds up and slows down . And in the water does the same i noticed last time that it was running and planing fine but it also slowed down an up....what cuold be wrong please help is it an expensive fix? help please ....thanks

surging usually caused by problems with the fuel supply, overly rich mixture, air leak into inlet manifold or fuel line, faulty carby. If you cant find the cause readily take it to someone who can. Cheaper than a Coastguard tow back. (& way less embarrassing)
