So ESPN did their pre season forecast for the Eastern conference standings next year , How is it possible?

Update:

How can they have 2 teams(Cavs and Bulls) in the same division as the #1 and 2 seed in the conference? Did they not realize the top 3 seeds in the East are all division no matter and the 4th seed is the team with best record of the no division winners? WTF?

Update 2:

229, I said your first statement above. Your second statement is false. If the two best teams(by record) are in the same division the division winner gets the 1 seed and the other team gets the 4 seed. See 05-06. This happened in the West with the Spurs and Mavs.

Update 3:

You're right. I didn't even realize they changed it. My bad. Thanks though and I'll give you best answer. Learn something new every day hehehe.

If you win the division you are guaranteed at least a top 4 seed. It used to be guaranteed top 3 originally, but they changed that shortly after.

The two best teams will get the #1 and #2 regardless.

Like I said they tweaked the rules after that happened. Teams 1 to 4 in each conference are the three division winners and the team with the next best regular-season record, *with the seeding of these four teams determined by regular-season record*.

Division winners are no longer guaranteed a top 3 seed, only a top 4 seed.

Also the seeding of division winners is just a seeding/number, it doesn't necessarily mean you get home court advantage. You can be a #4 seeded division winner, and still not have home court against the #5 seeded team (if they have the better record).
