What's the best cleaner to clean a cat litter tray with?
I've used washing up liquid, bleach and clean n fresh pine disinfectant (39 pence for a 1 liter bottle in home bargains) before which have all worked really well. I obviously also rinse the tray out thoroughly and dry it once I'm done so there's no scent left behind, since strong cleaner smells can deter cats from using it.
Would I be better sticking to one of these or using a different one?

My vet and the people I volunteer with at my local humane society suggest using warm water and soap of your choice, specifically unscented, because as you said cats are deterred by strong scents. I would definitely go with just water and regular soap as it's always worked for me!

I'd use baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) which neutralizes smells fairly well and is not toxic to animals and is ecologically sound for putting down the drain. And just plain soap and water. And every few months I might use a pet enzymic cleaner. On my 3 litter boxes, I put them in a big trash bag each then I put the litter in. When I want to change out all the litter, I just slowly turn the trash bag inside out as I peel it off the box, tie it up and toss it out. Keeps the box a little cleaner--but I don't have cats with sharp claws (they get mani- and pedicures weekly) nor do my cats dig furiously in the boxes.
