Most types of cancer have no effect on the growth of blood cells.

Those aren't usually involved. Cancer can be the growth of any cell in the body. Blood cells only grow in large numbers in blood cancers.
In blood cancers, it is usually the white cells that are being overproduced, but sometimes more red cells will be made than is supposed to happen.

My red blood cells and my white blood cells replicate all the time ... before I had cancer and while I have cancer. My counts are very normal. Before cancer, I had low WBC and it got a little bit lower after cancer diagnosis. However, it's very consistent for me.
