Pound for pound, Jake LaMotta is the better fighter. However, he would never carry 175 very well. Jake would have his share of successful rounds in the beginning.
.
It's not likely that Jake would be knocked out or even knocked down. And Maxim would never hurt him. But he would lose nearly every round from 8 - 15.
.
Maxim W 15.

Joey Maxim wins this by decision. Jake LaMotta was a better fighter but that was at middleweight. Maxim being to big and strong walks right through LaMotta who was not known as a puncher anyhow. Maxim was nothing special but he is a light heavyweight to Jake who was actually short for a middleweight.

Its never ideal for Jake to go up 175 lbs. Tough as he was, he was painfully slow. He was like a crouching tiger without the quickness of the cat. Jake's claim to fame was that he wont taste the canvass no matter the odds. Maxim would win no doubt

As great as Jake LaMotta was, he wouldn't do very well at Light Heavyweight and Joey Maxim would just pot shot him the whole fight.

I think Joey beats Jake by Ud, I feel that Galactus' description is right on the money.

This pairing would have been natural given a common denominator--Sugar Ray Robinson. Would the Bronk Bull have succeeded where Sugar failed ( retirement due to heat exhaustion/dehydration )?
