How do you graph y = -x?
How do you graph y = -x ? I know you list in a column like (with any luck that should come out in a column)
2 | 2-
1 | 1-
3 | 3-
but does it matter what those numbers are since the equation has no numbers? I'm confused. This is for homework but I'm just stuck. Any help greatly appreciated, Thank you.
The numbers seen above are just what I threw out there as an example which is why I asked "does it matter what those numbers are"?
The question is just simply y= -x

So as Bob said, it is go down from left to right at 45 degrees and through origin. Those numbers should on the y=-x this graph line. For instance, (-1,1). Since x=-1, as equation shows, y should be 1. You could list those (x,y) , randomly x or y and use equition to calculate other one you dont know ,in order to find points and connect them. Ps: you only need make two (x,y)and then you can graph it . OR you could use most western way to solve it. Find 'slove' and graph it . I don't recommend this way but it is your choice. Good luck:)

The question is "how do I graph"--------If you are using a computer program to graph like excel you put your x values in one column and the corresponding y values in the next column. Then go to the x-y plot button, select your data and click on plot. What you will see is the same as what you would get if you drew your own set of x-y axes and plotted your data. So draw and x-y set of axes just roughly on a piece of blank paper----x runs horizontally and runs say from -10 to +10 and the y axis is verticle and intersects the x axis at zero. Make the y axis the same length from -10 to + 10. Plot your points on this graph. When x is zero so is y zero so your first point is at the intersection of the x-y axes called 0,0. Plot the other points-----x+2 and y=-2 also written 2, -2 etc and draw the straight line thru the points.

It's a straight line going downwards left to right at 45 degrees, going through the origin.
