Why are questions routed to catagories you have not selected?

We no longer have the option to select a category before submitting a question; the category is automatically selected based on the wording of the question.

A well-worded question is more likely to post to the appropriate category, but it's not foolproof. You can change the category yourself AFTER submitting by using the 'Edit Category' option above the question.

Also, Level 7 users can change the category for any question (meant to be a helpful feature, but is proving to be abused and misused to prank and annoy those who asked the question, sometimes with malicious intent) so there's no guarantee that your question will 'stick' in your chosen category even after you've placed it there.

In general, Sombra is right. But in your case, the problem might be one of the many YA glitches, especially if you're using IE.

Anyway, I had the same problem and I just switched to the Google Chrome toolbar and it's much easier to edit the category. Now, if my question goes astray, I can at least move it back quickly.

I've heard Firefox also works well with YA. Best of luck.
