I would still consult your pediatrician but I know for acid reflux, it;s okay to do a tiny bit of rice cereal in a bottle with the milk because it helps with the reflux. It's not considered solids because it's just thickening it to help with reflux and spitting up. Most pediatricians will tell you this. My close friend started her baby at 2 1/2 months. My son started some solids at 3 months. It will NOT kill your baby. Idiots. Also, look up Simply Thick, your pediatrician might have samples.. it's a thickening gel.

I think unless you have the say so of a doctor its to young, I had to start solids a 13 weeks because I was left with a choice let my baby starve or feed him and I chose to feed the solids, the doctors are happy with him now as most babies do better on solids but it is not something id recommend that young unless you have no choice there are plenty of medicines out there that can help mild reflux why not try those before using ceral as that probably contains gluten which is bad for babies before 6 months

I give my 2mo son enfamil ar which has rice in it, and made for acid reflux, and its up to 12mo like the rest. Only thing that works for him (of course i still sit him up after feedings and slightly elevate his mattress too) and it was recccomended by his doc. I wouldn't mix the rice on my own yet, because it would be a constant battle on what is the best combination to battle his reflux and still be safe for a 2mo. If I were u I'd switch to ar, or get some meds, but meds should be last resort in my opinion.

I think it is an absolute last resort, and that rice cereal is not the ideal choice to thicken feeds.
And of course this should not be done without consulting a doctor. Any solids at 2 months have health risks - both short term and life long - for baby. You need to be really sure it is the lesser of two evils before resorting to this.

My mom started me on rice cereal at 2 months, Now as an adult, I have numerous food sensitives and allergies. I have to watch how much gluten I eat. My digestive system is a mess. There are food thickeners that are safe to eat, and don't mess with the babies' digestive system.
Solids should be started at age 6 months. Cereal can be skipped completely. And cereal NEVER goes in the bottle.
Rice cereal is a highly processed white carb, the kind docs tell us adults to avoid like the plague. So why are we feeding this to the babies?

2 months is too young for cereal. Talk to your pediatrician about his acid reflux. There are several medications you can give for it.

SuzyQ I hate to inform you but that is what the doctor recommended so now what do you have to say? He also recommended that she sit up at a incline for about 90 minutes (bouncy seat) and prescribed meds for her as well.
Gordon, we are doing this under the advice of her doctor and me of the tried and true. By the way we are NOT killing the baby

1. 2 months old is far too early to feed a child solid food.
2. Discuss these things with a doctor or you could end up killing your baby.
3. Maybe "killing" was the wrong word, but if you want advice on a newborn baby's diet, yahoo answers is NOT a reliable source of information. Doctors only for the life of your newborn.
