Copyright question. I have emailed Avanquest a few times...but they never eply to my query.?
I have the GSP 40,000 clip art images CD-ROM. GSP is now owned by Avanquest. I want to use a snowflake clip art image in an ebook. But I need to know if that's an infringement of copyright laws. The CD-ROM package advertises: "Good for Home, School or Offcie"...but that doesn't necessarily mean it's OK to use it for the purposes I've stated.
Anyone know anything pertinent to this kind of situation?

You need to read the license agreement that came with the package. The advertising isn't going to hold up if you get sued. The licensing agreement will. You may or may not have issues with the company now owned by someone else.
On a general level, most clip art is "free" to use for such purposes once the package has been sold. So it's most likely you're okay. But read the license agreement.

I think you are OK using it without additional permission as their statement that it is acceptable to use for an "office" application implies that commercial application (your use) is included in your rights to use the art.
