Were the hippies of the 1960s different than the ones of today?

Update:

@Shawn:

Ummm actually weed is more popular now, back then it was rebellious to smoke weed. And weed wasn't legal in the 1960s, it became illegal in 1937. Obviously you've never seen Reefer Madness lol

    Very...the hippies were not just about drugs but they believed in free love, equality for all including racial and gender..they fostered a back to nature movement with people depending on the land and not overusing the land or products...I don't believe any sub-culture group of today could be called a true hippie.movement...if you are just going by long hair and flowery clothing with lots of drugs..well, to me that is not a hippie..they do not challenge the old values of their parents or the establishment as in the sixties.

    Yes, they had a movement. And LSD and weed were much more popular in their days. Weed was legal at one time and the hippies fought for years to keep weed legal as they felt it was a bonding drug and helped keep peace. Pretty much their complete culture and reasoning was for the above reasoning. Today, hippies are just ...... well, hippies, not much more to it

    Yes. many were dumb enough to think acid makes you find god, instead of just getting you really baked. There aren't any that dumb anymore, are there?
