Get the particular car you want to buy checked by a reliable mechanic, and look after it, and it should be fine. Any car that age is likely to need maintenace, but it should be "routine" stuff.

Sure. Nice car. Don't know about repairs, but the older A4 suspension sucked along with expensive maintenance on the 1.8T. But the 2.0T is much better and reliable.
