Should hate speech be allowed on Yahoo! Answers?

When folks answer questions by bashing gay people and using highly sexually explicit material, should that be allowed?

I reported an answer but the answer remains.

Opinions?

Hatespeech, gay- (or any- ) bashing, and adult content (highly sexually explicit material) are NOT permitted.

However, as already explained, it nearly always takes several users reporting before violating content is deleted. Deletion is automatic when enough users with high-enough combined reporting trust report the same posting. Not many users have the ability to get violating content deleted with only their own report; those who do have that ability have a history of reporting consistently and correctly, often for YEARS.

Also, there have been problems with community moderation (the automated report/delete system) for days -- crap that should, and usually DOES, drop easily is remaining on the site despite multiple users reporting.

No,questions and answers that express hate and intolerance have no place on Yahoo Answers and should be reported.

Yahoo Answers isn't a soapbox to vent personal frustrations or rant about issues. We are a community of people with diverse beliefs, opinions, and backgrounds, so please be respectful and keep hateful and incendiary comments off Yahoo Answers.

    Don't

use slurs to refer to groups of people.

    insult other members.

act in an aggressive or threatening way towards others.

report someone because you disagree with that person’s opinion.

It's up to each member to report people who engage in this kind of behavior, and to refrain from participating in it.

In order to answer reasonably, one must DEFINE the term "hate speech." Political correctness gone awry has made normal responses that might be used 20 years ago into "hate speech" today. What some might find "offensive," others might take in stride and not be offended by such "speech." Allow me to offer an example: I personally do NOT believe that gays are a "protected" class and as such are NOT entitled to "protected" status such as race, religion, gender, disability, etc. simply because their sexual preferences differ than mine. Is that hate speech? For some, perhaps yes. The unintended consequences of this agenda are rising up to strain our system and create more havoc and costs.

No this is supposed to be a be nice to others " site. hateful posts should be reported. Probably your trust level wasn't high enough for your single report to drop that answer or even if your level is high community moderation has been glitching lately and many reported posts that should be dropping aren't.

It violates the community guidelines, but sometimes it takes more than one report to remove content. It seems to depend on the level of the reporter and the person who posted the content, among other things.

No. The guidelines are thoroughly clear on that: "be respectful and keep hateful and incendiary comments off Yahoo Answers" - https://uk.answers.yahoo.com/info/community_guidel...

As others say, it just hasn't had enough weight of reliable reports to be deleted.

the reason remains has nothing to do with if it's allowed here and everything to do with the fact that you obviously don't have a high enough TR to drop it by yourself.
