The 2015 Hall ballot -- which rookies get the call? (Real question, can be answered by real people)?

The rookie Hall candidates, alphabetical order:

Rich Aurilia

Aaron Boone

Tony Clark

Carlos Delgado

Jermaine Dye

Darin Erstad

Cliff Floyd

Nomar Garciaparra

Brian Giles

Tom Gordon

Eddie Guardado

Randy Johnson

Pedro Martinez

Troy Percival

Jason Schmidt

John Smoltz

Gary Sheffield

Who gets elected?

Who gets to come back to the 2016 ballot?

Who goes one and done?

I see two clear electees, Johnson and Martinez, with Smoltz a maybe first-timer.

Randy Johnson and Pedro Martinez will get in, Smoltz will get between 60 and 70%, Sheffield will get around 10-15%. Smoltz would be first ballot most years, but Johnson and Martinez, combined with Biggio having gotten "this" close last year, Smoltz will probably end up like Carlton Fisk did in 1999.

I predict Nomar, Delgado and Brian Giles receive less than 5%, but with a lot more than just a few token votes.

I also predict Sammy Sosa will received less than 5% and fall off, too.

I wonder if the HOF cutting candidacy from 15 ballots to 10 will have any noticeable, immediate effects on totals of returning candidates.

Johnson and Martinez will be elected, and Smoltz and possibly Sheffield will stick around. In previous decades, Delgado and Garciaparra would probably have remained on the ballot, but no longer. I don't see Percival lasting more than a year or two even on older ballots - he's done this year, and will be lucky to get 10 votes.

I'd vote for Johnson, Martinez, Smoltz, and Sheffield.

I agree with Johnson and Martinez...but I also think Smoltz gets in on his first ballot. In my mind he will get heavy consideration not just because of his association with Atlanta's "Big Three," but also for his dominance as a starter AND a closer.

As for the rest, Sheffield's numbers will certainly keep him on the ballot, but it will be interesting to see how the whispers of PEDs will affect his long-term status.

As fofr the rest, I think Nomar will get some votes from nostalgic writers from the Northeast, and I think Tom "Flash" Gordon and Carlos Delgado will get enough to stay on the ballot.

Pedro and the Big Unit will get the call. Sheff and Smoltzie will be hampered by Biggio's almost certain election. Three from the Writers' Ballot. And as a Twins fan, I'd love to see "Kitty" and Oliva from the Veterans Committe. I'd also go for Wills, but I don't know if he has support since he's never been on the ballot before.

Pedro, Big Unit and Smoltz in. Sheffield and Garciaparra return next year.

The Unit. Pedro and Smoltzie should make it easily. Nomar, Percival and Sheffield should stay on the ballot beyond next year.
