How did passengers prepare food on an 18th century ship?

From what I can find, each person/family received a certain ration of grains, like cornmeal and oats, and other non perishables. But how did they cook any of it?

There were normally cooks on ships who prepared the food. Grains would have been made into porridge, bread, etc.
