Do I need to have my mail forwarded to my P.O. box or street address.?

I have a new P.O. box for my home. Mail isn't delivered in town and all mail will be delivered there. Will mail with the physical street address, (without the box #), make it to my P.O. box. I need to know how to have my mail forwarded.

File a 'Change of Address' request with the Post Office so the mail currently going to the street address is directed to the Post Office Box you currently use. Until this action is taken, the mail pieces for the street address will not be deliverable, and will be returned to the sender. If you submit the 'Change of Address' request online, you will be charged a small fee, so a credit card will be required. But you can print off a copy of the 'Change of Address' request and deliver the completed form to the local Post Office branch without a fee charge.

The Post Office will forward mail from the old street address to the new Post Office Box address for six months. This period can be extended another six months (total one year) if you update the information before the end of month six of the original forwarding request.

The USPS has a "change of address" form in which you would fill in your street address as as the receiving address and have it forwarded to your PO box.

In my little town, the postmaster knows everyone and will look up the names of anyone they don't know, and see if they can arrange delivery to a different address (e.g., your PO box if someone is still using your street address).

Fill out a change of address form; it goes to your "old" address and show the PO address. You can probably also do this at usps.gov.

In addition, send a change of address showing the PO address to friends, credit cards, magazines, anyone you do business with e.g., dentists, doctors, etc.

I would imagine that if you were stupid enough to give out your residence address as your mailing address that your mail would be returned to the sender as "undeliverable." It isn't the job of the mail sorter to look and see if you've gotten yourself a PO address. If it isn't deliverable as addressed then it will be returned to whoever sent you the mail.

Source(s): You don't show your resident address unless asked to do so. When you do show both address make it clear that ALL mail goes to the PO address. Never place your residence in the mailing address.
