What's the best temperature for a perfect rib roast?

Some recipes say to start at 500 and then lower the temp after 15 minutes. Others say to keep the same temp throughout cooking. I have a 5 lb bone-in standing rib roast for Christmas Day. How can I make it perfect? Thanks, and Happy Holidays!

I cook mine at about 200 degrees for as long as it takes to become medium rare and then blast it at 500 for the last 10 minutes or so.

Here is the best way I have found to cook prime rib. First get one of those disposable aluminum roasting pans, it won't be worth much after. And yes you will need a hammer to break the crust covering the roast. Make sure the roast is covered well with the egg and salt mixture. It will give you the juiciest and tender prim rib you have ever had. I have never used the Italian dressing mix, but it sounds like it may be good..
