I don't think so. Sure I saw a few really bad movies such as Endless Love, A Million Ways to Die in the West and Tusk, but there are a lot of bad movies every year. If anything I saw less crap this year than in previous years. I actually thought this was a very good year for movies, most of the summer blockbusters such as Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Edge of Tomorrow and the Marvel movies were all very well-received and were a lot fun, and there was so many good independent films and debuts from people I had never heard of such as The Babadook, Obvious Child, Coherence, Frank, Nightcrawler, Love is Strange and so many more. There were great animated movies including The Lego Movie, The Wind Rises, How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Big Hero 6. There were great foreign language films such as Ida, Force Majuere and We are the Best!.The only group of films that disappointed me were the studio Oscar-bait films. I didn't love The Theory of Everything or Big Eyes. I heard Unbroken was not very good either. Foxcatcher and Imitation Game were good but nothing special. But the more independent releases like Boyhood, Birdman, Grand Budapest Hotel, and Whiplash were all fantastic and will probably do really well at awards season. I was very impressed with the movies of 2014, if you were not then I suggest you seek out the smaller movies if you have not already.
