I assumed that the other things that might cause the no start like fuel pump/ filter, timing, low compression etc been tested/looked at. Let's focus on the no start due to no spark or weak spark.

First important thing: Check the ground for the distributor first. I've seen my technicians forget to check it from time to time, the worst one is the one that the ground wire completely.. disappeared. When in doubt: Run another one from the distributor's body to the engine block or intake manifold.

It could be a defected igniter (ignition control module) or an ignition coil is at fault. Or is it the distributor cap and rotor? Or maybe the spark plug wires? Or is it the crankshaft position sensors within the distributor that have gone south? Or maybe it's a nightmare of all: A PCM (Computer) that went haywire on you?

Does the CEL ever came on? If so get the code read out would help you to get into the right path of diagnostic.

The answer to all of the above questions: You'll need to do the testing one at a time: the ignition coil, the igniter, the distributor cap/ rotor, the spark plug wires or the crank position sensor as the cause of the no start condition. They are the components that fail most often of the time.

Don't know what tools you have had but you'll need these tools:

1- A DVOM (Digital Volt Ohm Meter):

2- An HEI spark tester is a cheap must have tool to correctly diagnose ignition problem. Do not use a regular spark plug instead of a spark tester to test for spark:

This article is helpful. It'll show you the whole "Enchilada" about testing more than the things I've mentioned above: Book mark it for future reference.

Did you check for fuel? Did you check for spark? Did you check for compression? Once you've nailed it down to one, you can start checking components.

Got a fuel problem? Maybe it's a blown fuse, a bad main relay, or a bad fuel pump.

Got no spark? Maybe it's a bad coil pack, broken rotor, etc, etc.

Got no compression? Then you're out of luck.
