Poll on best computer for my mother?
My mom is 82 and completely computer illiterate, what would you think the most user friendly way to go for her, just simple Web surfing is all I'm looking for.. I don't and never had a tablet but i was wondering if that would be the way to go.. Thanks for your answers in advance :-)

I would say no to the tablet because I've seen both of my grandmother (both in their high 80s) try to operate a touch screen and it doesn't go very well. Constantly 'misclicking' and not know what happened or how to get back.
If you're looking for something mobile I would say a laptop is easy enough, not much different from a full computer. I would browse Amazon and choose something with a modest price range. Since she's just going to be doing very few things on it she doesn't need a really fancy/expensive one. I would also set up it for her (i'm sure you will) and just show her how to navigate to her favorite pages.

Old people can't see very well and laptops and tablets are made for people with 20/20 vision. The solution is to get a cheap desktop tower and plug it into a big 50 or 60 inch cheap TV. Not only will the icons be bigger and easier to see, but if she has trouble focusing on things close to her eyes, this will be 6 or 8 feet away from her eyes so she can focus on it more easily.

if i was you - i would move this to senior citizens in the society and culture category - i always get lots of helpful answers in that section
follow the tabs
All Categories > Society & Culture > Cultures & Groups > Other - Cultures & Groups
( senior citz is a sub section of other cultures and groups - can be hard to find )
a tablet could be good
