Question about the legality of hidden cameras?

This will sound silly, but the only stupid question is the one you don't ask, I guess.

I belong to a homeowners board. We're all old enough to be grandparents. One of the other women has taken a dislike to me, and constantly makes faces and flips obscene gestures when the others don't see. I confronted her privately and she flatly denied it and said I was crazy. One of the men said he didn't believe it. (People don't always mature as they get older) I would like to take in a hidden camera and film her geriatric antics, but my husband said I can't film someone without her permission.

If this is true, how do people get away with nanny-cams? I don't want to publish the film; just show it to the other members privately. Thanks for any help.

Pamela has no knowledge of the law. The Supreme Court has ruled that; and I quote; "You have no expectation of privacy in public; or in the public view." Anything you can legally see; you can legallly film or photograph.

Ask you husband this: Tomorrow night at the Super Bowl; when the cameras roll over tens of thousands of fans in the stands and instantly broadcast them on live national television; does he think that they have advanced permission from each and every one of those people?

When you walk into a store with surveillance cameras; which is nearly all of them; have you given the owner advance permission to film you?

Again; the woman you are speaking of has no expectation of privacy outside her home.

"(People don't always mature as they get older)"

As you clearly demonstrate with this question. For god's sake let it go she may have an illness or on meds that causes irrational behavior. The others will only think you are the dummy not her even if you prove to everyone YOU are right.

People get away with nanny-cams because the filming is on their own property.

Presumably your filming would not be on your own property. If this is out in "public," you have more leeway to be able to film or take pictures. But do indeed be careful what you do with it.

No, you cannot film her, by the way, she could have dementia, and the ravings will not be her fault, and she would not remember, just try not to be alone with her.
