DVI to HDMI no signal. Please help.?
I bought a computer from a friend a couple states over and the graphics card on the PC has a DVI output, but the TV I use as a monitor only accepts HDMI, VGA, and standard cable. I got a DVI to HDMI adapter so that I could use it with my TV, but the TV displays no signal.

The trouble with standards like DVI and HDMI is that there are variations of the standards.
DVI-A is not going to work. DVI-D and DVI-I will work.
HDMI 1.0 and HDMI 1.2a will give you a 156MHz signal. HDMI 1.3 is a 340MHz signal
The HDMI connection can be single link for type A, C or D and a dual link for type B
Etc.
Without details of the PC/graphics card and TV it will be difficult to say just where the problem lies.

As long as you have connected to the correct input on the TV and you have changed the output of your graphics if that is required it should work unless you are sending a resolution to high for the TV.Reduce the resolution being sent to prove.
Can you tell me the description of the adapter you have??
Duncan I think is quoting from Wikipedia,. I have never seen a DVI-A cable on its own just a DVI-D or more commonly a DVI-I cable which is A and D so there is no problem there really.

Try VGA and right click on your desktop, personalizing your screen to adapt to the cord.
