What is the Relevance of "Relevance" being the first selection that comes up when opening a search?

I for one, do not give a care about Answers that are more than a week old, let alone those that are EIGHT YEARS old.

The people who ask questions appear to never research to see what answers were to their same question.

So why is the un-relevent questions the First selection as "Relevant" when we seek to answer current questions?

Anyone else agree that "Relevance" should be a choice and not forced upon us?

Relevance

Relevance means how well something relates to what you asked. A newer question or answer isn't helpful - if it bears little or no relation to what you are searching for. For many searches, AGE doesn't affect the answer; for example, a good recipe for banana bread is a good recipe, whether it was posted today or 8 years ago.

Other questions and their answers, of course, ARE time critical, and knowing how to fix our Yahoo email NOW is totally different from fixing it 8 years ago. But that is why we have the ability to CHANGE the sorting order of our search results - and the answers to questions. Not sure why you think "relevance" is forced on us, though; I see it as a choice, and change it if/when I need to.

Doing a search for questions to answer, the Relevance comes up FIRST, Not Newest. I cannot see any setting to bring up Newest first.
