What's your opinion: Are our troops, as a whole, heroes? Also, are all troops, individually, heroes?

Update:

Please address both questions seperately and explain why.

Individually it can be a definite NO. As a whole, YES. You have to look at the forest and the good it does. Looking the individual trees? You can get a William L. Calley or a John Freakin Kerry or a George S Custer. Then you can also get an Audy Murphy, an Alvin York and a Chris Kyle From the murderous, lying braggarts to the sublime and selfless.

Good point. There were some who seem to have made peculiar military decisions. One of the officers decorated at the battle of Rourke's Drift was honoured for attempting to save the regimental colours. This appears to have involved advancing at great speed in a direction directly away from the enemy.

Most of our troops are average or below average schmucks who try to do their low paying jobs the best that they can and who avoid putting themselves in situations that would make them do something heroic

Yes, by putting on the Uniform of the American Military, each and every one of them are heroes. They risk their lives, cause stress and worry of their family because of the danger they voluntarily put themselves in, all so my grandchildren will be safe with the freedoms that the authoritative ego in the White House is wanting to strip from us.

It's a job.....don't think and do as you are told......and never NEVER refer to Nuremburg when the American Judges said that it is a soldiers higher duty to refuse illegal or immoral orders.....oh, and if you are a planning to be a Republican Senator some day, you can practice by 'fragging" your superior officer..

No, they actually have to do something heroic to be heroes, not just blindly invade countries that may or may not hurt us 10 years down the line maybe.

No. That is the problem we have already. Everybody wants to be a hero. They signed up to do a job. That does not constitute heroism all the time.
