Why do people add the "-gate" suffix to political scandals? Don't they realize how ridiculous it looks?
It's even transcended politics into sports. "Deflate-gate"? I mean, COME ON!
I am fully aware of Watergate.

It all started with Watergate, and ever since, reporters with no imagination have added it to all scandals. The UK even had "Dianagate" - obviously something involving Princess Diana, and that's not even political. It's just become part of the media vocabulary. Tabloid media know their readers, pander to their prejudices, and -gate has become the way of signalling "juicy scandal coming up!"

Not really the Nixon scandal was big big news at the time and that scandal was did he know before hand of the WaterGate break in and liberals were sure were not going to let him say ''we all do it'' they wanted his blood and he resigned

We owe that little suffix to President Richard Nixon and the Watergate break-in scandal.

I have no idea. I'm going to guess it's to help make a point by comparing said scandal to watergate. Basically media exaggeration.

It started with Watergate, a hotel in Washington DC where Nixon had the headquarters of the DNC bugged.

Liberals forever will refer back to Nixon and Watergate. They don't care about their own scandals just others.

I think it reflects even more on how our media turns every thing into a major world-ending scandal nowadays.
