This translates to an algebraic expression 15x which describes how long you can tan without burning. Define variable: x = number of minutes you can stay in sun.

    Expression for how long you can stay in sun with sunscreen: 15x

    If you can ordinarily stay in the sun for 30 minutes, substitute:

    30 = x

    => 15x = 15*30 = 450 minutes.

    Thus, when using a lotion with an SPF of 15, one can stay in the sun for 450 minutes (7.5 hours) without burning.
