Why do Jehovah Witnesses lie about Christian practices and beliefs to promote their sect?

I think it's mostly because of the mind control their leaders use. That's one of the lies you mentioned. Sunshine said that the Watchtower has no leaders. They have the Governing Body and elders. Before that, they had Charles Taze Russell and Rutherford.

They study the Bible, but only through the literature they get from the Watch Tower. I find this Watch Tower quote interesting.

I don't know if we can blame mind control on all false information.

I just emailed a former witness and asked for more information about that.

Update: While I was out running errands, I remembered some of the things Sunshine said. I also remembered some wrong information given by a JW who said he is a former Catholic. The former Catholic had to know he was giving incorrect information. I also remember Sunshine said that Catholics "use idols in their worship." I thought about the way she said that. It would be untrue to say that Catholics worship idols because we don't. We don't even use them in worship. She could, however, claim to consider ALL statues to be idols and then say that because statues are in churches that they're being used. That is outright deception but it might be worded so that she can claim innocence.
