how can a selected Best Answer be removed after it is returned to my records?

The Asker selected My notice of best answer which was then sent to me. It was then removed by an unknown user.

Can an angry high level user be that spiteful? I can't even appeal

An answer can be removed at any time, so being awarded as the Best Answer then doesn't earn any additional immunity or anything.

Is someone is systematically reporting you and incorrectly then appeal. I got hit at the end of last year by a spate of reports and knowing they were not violations I appealed (and when I got no answer I appealed using the link on the help pages for the second time), and as soon as a couple of them got reinstated then the reporting stopped. Of course that's not going to work if the content was a violation.

"Can an angry high level user be that spiteful?"

It doesn't have anything to do with levels. Reporting trust can be earned at Level 1 and equally Level 7 users can have zero reporting trust so don't go believing everything you read about all Level 6 and 7 users being miscreants. People being reported lash out and higher level users are easy targets in that respect.

    " I can't even appeal"

Sure you can and if your content wasn't a violation then that's exactly what you should do. Use the link in the violation notice you got sent. If that doesn't work (sometimes it doesn't) or you don't get a reply then use the below link
