Why is the UK featured on American Y/A?
Such a large portion of questions are generated about events and local situations in the UK, American responses are generally irrelevant.
This forces users to search through numerous pages just to find questions we can answer with some hope of helping. As well as responses condemning American answers or actions being displayed with no way to defend our positions.
Why isn't this filtered more efficiently

That's because we are all lumped in the same pot now for all the sites - UK & Ireland, Canada, US, India, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia - yes there is a flag and site for each of those with a separate country version URL..... but frankly there is no difference at all anymore.
Years ago they used to be individual sites with a Yahoo Answers Team for most, all with a blog relating to local issues and a filter so you could sort on all English language questions or the site specific ones only.
Yahoo in it's infinite wisdom (yes there is a smattering of snarkasm there) decided to get rid of the blogs, get rid of the sites and presumably got rid of the staff as well. As a result we are also lumped into one big pot together. People have asked for the filter to be returned many times on the Suggestion Board, but so far it's fallen on deaf ears.
Now I'm a Brit and to be honest I have the opposite experience. It's far more normal for me to come across questions written by an American than a Brit. However what I do find is that it does also depend on the category you are in e.g. in Politics it's very US politics based where as Current Events seems to be very Brit based.
As Whizzz said the Travel sections attract a lot of locals especially the Australian, Israel, Greece, Egyptian, Thai and other categories.

It was filtered before where users could choose which country they wanted to see questions from and it was better. It used to say under the questions what site it was asked on but that is gone now.
Yahoo decided to take that option away and now all Questions and Answers from all the English speaking sites are all lumped together.
One alternative is to go to the Travel category and choose the US link, those questions are about the US. https://answers.yahoo.com/dir/index?sid=396545566
