    Call your local fish and game office. Explain to them everything you know about a potential extinct animal sighting, and they'll send over a game warden, and he will ask you some questions, and ask to see the sight where the animal was killed. And if you honestly didn't kill the animal, you won't get fined or go to prison. If you don't know their number, you can always google it.
