What does "battery" mean in baseball terminology?

Not "things Yankee fans throw at opposing players".

grouch-Klink cannot answer this, partly because I blocked the idjit ages ago, mostly because it knows NOTHING about BASEBALL.

You have to understand how a battery works before you can understand why they call it a "battery." There is a positive and negative force in a battery that work together to form a common bond. Like a battery powers a circuit, a catcher powers the pitcher in more ways than one, without the catcher the pitcher essentially cannot pitch properly.

I looked this up once; Henry Chadwick likened a pitcher's strength and speed with that of an artillery battery, both firing projectiles at high speed. Over time, "battery" came to include the catcher as well.
