debt collection concerns?
so my wife and i have been called a few ties by a debt collection company. however they do not know my wifes first name. they claim an account was opened in teas, but the billing address on the account is in kentucky. and nothing has showed up on either of our creditreports. we use creditkamra.com. so im not really sure if this is real or not, and i dont know how to find out, short of going to a lawyer. anyone have any tips? or experience?
thanks

The most important thing is to stop talking to them on the phone. If you absolutely must tell them anything or ask them anything, then do it only in writing, without using the phone.
If they called one of you and told the other one that they were a collection agency, then that means that this is not legitimate. The one absolute strictest rule is that legitimate debt collections are not allowed to tell anyone except the person they are calling that they are a debt collection agency. If they call one person and tell another person that they are a debt collection agency, that means that they are not following the rules that legitimate debt collectors must follow.

You need to look on the real credit bureaus websites, which you can see for free on www.annualcreditreport.com. This is where you look.
