This question has the chicken and the egg answer. Yes, depression and anxiety may cause insomnia, but, insomnia may also cause depression and anxiety. It has been scientifically proven both ways. Since you have experienced a tragedy, it is highly probable that you first experienced the insomnia which may cause the lack of sleep to cause your body to then feel the effects and then experience depression and anxiety. Perhaps you should contact your doctor for more or updated medication that may include not only an antidepressant, but also an antianxiety medication and sleeping pill until you can resolve some of the tragedy issues in therapy and then slowly have the doctor ween you off of the medications once you are feeling better. I hope you feel better soon.

Consult a professionally qualified doctor and reveal the whole history. Doctor knows how to give treatment. You can not deal with it on your own.
