Gender for "Sorrel"?

I cam across the name Sorrel, which is a unisex name derived from the herb, but also an old French name. Either way I was interested in it and wish to add it to my list of names for future characters. It would fit in the world I have created. Anyway my question is, if you read this name in a story or saw it in a game, what gender do you think the person (or animal/creature) would have?

Right now I'm leaning towards a guy, but I also think it'd be sweet for a female character.

Right off the bat, I would think boy. However, I think it could go for either (: It's a really cool name!

I see this and think of a tomboy to be honest.

I see it as slightly more feminine because -el names make me think of girls, but really it could go either way.

    Good luck!
