Can I Bring MRE's in my checking bag with American Airlines?

it's a dumb question sense there's already an answer to it, but i want to make sure.

here's my problem.

so i ask a similar question before and thanks to someone who used to work as a TSA. he said i am allowed to put MRE's in my checking bag. but i forgot to add a little more detail to the question. this time i want to know if it's allowed with American Airlines? i did some researching and found out that the "Customer Service FAQs" says "no." because of the heating packs... why would they say no when TSA says yes 0.o?!?!

But anyways, do you think they would accept it if i take out the heating packs? and you must be thinking, "why don't you just call them and ask?"... well i tried searching everywhere for their help line and email address. but it's mostly for helping out with purchasing tickets, fixing your account, disability assistance etc... but nothing to do with questions.....

Although AA ultimately has the final say on what goes in their plane, the simple fact is they will never know what you have in your bag. TSA screens checked luggage. TSA will be the ones that see or don't see the heater packs on an x-ray or during a 'random' bag inspection. They will be the ones that decide. A TSA agent said you were good to go when answering your previous question.

The worst thing that will happen is that they will confiscate the MREs. You might get lucky and they will call you on your cell or over the PA to come see them and you might have the opportunity to pull out the heaters and keep the rest of the MRE parts.

Although it was something like 8 years ago, I flew from Germany to the US on American with about a half dozen MREs in my bags and no one batted an eye.

You appear to be doing everything you can to make a simple thing COMPLICATED.

    Think for a moment.

Place your MRE in a bag. Now climb a ladder repeatedly drop them to the floor. Drop another bag on them . Do they warm up ? YES or NO. If yes Do not ship them that way in your luggage. Now repack and try again. When you find a safe way to package your stuff you are good to go.

Tbey do have a contact phone number for American Airlines. They do have SUPERVISORS.and Cargo specialists. I would not expect every employee to be able to answer every possible question you can dream up.

Phone again. Wait on hold for a supervisor and get directed to those with more expertise in shipping STUFF. Most are concerned with their ticket and seat. That is why they usually just know that stuff.

    Seek and yee shall find.

The MRE's I have DO NOT heat up.

    TRY this one.

For the record, I still work for TSA on a part-time basis. I work full-time in the engineering field. (Hence my TSA employment is the "2nd job".) :-)

Now for your inquiry. W.T. Door is correct. The airline would be concerned if you are transporting signficant quantities of MREs. (Of which you are not.) A number of these FAQs are blanket statements which try to cover as many scenarios as possible. They are less concerned about someone bringing aboard a few MREs as opposed to transporting say a bottle of Everclear or improperly packed ammunition.

Additionally, we've received no instruction either from TSA or the FAA to remove these items from passenger's baggage when discovered during an inspection. (Side note: Hazardous materials discovered in baggage is handed to the airlines for disposal.)

The above link you may find useful. The information is a bit dated, but is still valid for your application. (Look under "Flameless Ration Heater" near the bottom.)

Addendum: Just consulted with the hazmat reference at my workstation. The information regarding the flameless ration heaters in MREs coincide with the information from the above link.

Take OUT the heating part and then no one will care at all. It is ONLY the heating pack that is a cause for concern.

This was clearly explained to you in your previous question. It is not that hard to understand.
