So, do the Cubs trade Castro or keep him?

The guy is under contract through 2019 in an extremely team-friendly deal. The players who might replace him at shortstop (Russell or Baez) are strikeout machines, so you hang onto Castro unless you get an offer you can't refuse.

No to both. I accept this is a long-haul strategy and to be honest I like it. No way Baez is ready to move up yet. Castro got screwed up by the coaching staff because they changed his approach and it obviously didn't work. Let him be him and he's fine. Junior Lake platoon? Nope. He needs lots of playing time to develop. If he doesn't work out then do something different, until then no. Brandon Philips costs too much and the Cubs need more time to have a decent team on field before they make a splash in free agency or try to make something happen in the now. Samardzija will probably get traded, but I doubt for a big name. Probably more along the lines of a couple prospects, nothing too impressive. The current strategy is working but it takes time, things Cubs fans like myself aren't used to when all we've done is take the win now approach and never been successful with it. This way we become a lot deeper and more talented on all levels.

Why would they trade him? He's under contract for another five years and the Cubs don't have anyone better to replace him. What they should do is trade Baez before teams realize that he isn't good enough to play at the major league level.

Yes, one of those scenarios will take place at some point in time in the forseeable future.
