Gays can procreate, lesbians can become pregnant, gay men can impregnate women, Many a gay man in the past sought to 'correct' themselves by entering marriages with women that produced children.

Recognizing those partnerships as worthy of the same tax breaks and other benefits that straight partnerships get isn't going to change that. Also, think about how many people there are this earth. Now think about how many babies are unable to be cared for by their birth parents and die of starvation or neglect each year. Yeah, we're not exactly in any danger of going extinct.
