Why is the cost of living so high in America?

Update:

Our minimum wage workers are among the top 5% wealthiest people in the world by raw income, and yet they can't even afford a tiny apartment. What causes our cost of living to be so out of control?

Compared to other 1st world countries the United States actually has a rather low cost of living. Because the US is such a large country that produces so much, the US doesn't have to outsource jobs and import goods as such as smaller countries. Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Norway and even Canada have a higher cost of living.

However compared to eastern Europe, Asia, Africa and south America the US does have a high cost of living. But out of 1st world countries it's quite low. The most notable features being cheap food and electronics.

    Ask this Present Administration.

Whenever your cost of operations to produce food for a nation start exceeding 50 percent

of your actual dollar cost. Your not going to be around very long. Grain cost for Cattle and

live stock are being forced into hyper space by Ethanol fuels being derived from field corn.

When ever a steer is fed a complete grass diet. You have the worst quality of table meat

you could imagine. Without a 20 percent grain induction into the steer the proper enzymes

to create US Choice and Overall US good. Are not in the steers diet. When you pick up that

red meat package and it is all red with no marveling. You might as well cook your damn shoe.

Grain Cost right now per ton delivered exceed 560.00 a ton. No one ranching operation can

sustain life on that cost. Fuel cost reflect the overall cost of goods and services across the

board in this nation. Unless something is changed quickly. Grocery prices will double next

    year.

I have lived in different countries around the world: developed and developing. My impression is: prices are influenced by basically 3 things:

    1. Income: American incomes, even for the lowest-paid income earners, are high, compared to other countries

    2. Taxes: Americans have lower taxes than other Western countries, but higher taxes than many other countries

    3. Disposable income and spending habits: prices are mostly determined by demand and supply. If many people are willing to pay higher prices, prices tend to rise.

With relatively high taxes and high disposable income (compared to other countries), price levels are, naturally, quite high in the U.S. Bad for low-income earners, but not a problem for America's middle class and rich. Possible solution: more supply of cheap apartments via government subsidies or, alternatively, income support from the government.

Well, the cost of living varies by state. Some states such as New York and California have a very high cost of living, but other states such as Iowa and Alabama have a very low cost of living.

It is called "monetary inflation." That's what happens when the government spends more than it receives in revenue and just "prints" more money to spend.

Here's an example. Today it costs about $100.00 to buy the very same kind of item that cost $4.00 in 1910. That's how much our currency has been devalued.

Actually, when you take out cities like New York and LA and go by the typical American Town, we've got among the LOWEST cost of living compared to other developed countries.

Housing costs are high in America because we buy as individuals

and investors are free to own as much housing as they can!-- we lack public housing.

Mecical care costs are likewise doubled, or worse just like housing,

because of privatization and a lack of public medicine.

Driving a car costs a typical family $780 a month- because we lack public transit.

    Corporations sell us food, too...

Because in america provides you the quality of life you can ever have. Like free noise pollution, basic human rights, good road, good high paid jobs and other things which we can't have anywhere.
