Having trouble getting 1985 mustang to pass smog?
My friend has a 1985 5.0 Mustang GT. It has some after market parts. He has been getting a lot of grief from smog shops refusing to smog his car. They give him strange excuses why they can't do it, such as:
- That's not the stock air cleaner.
- That's not the stock carburetor.
- That's not the stock exhaust manifold.
- That's not the stock distributor.
- That's not the stock....you get the point.
What are his options? He has a buddy in Nevada with whom he can register the cars address and cheat past it, but he'd like to know what other options he may have first. He mentioned something about going to a referee? If you have any info, it would be greatly appreciated.

the car MUST PASS A VISUAL FIRST if it cant do that then you wont get your smog PERIOD THE FIRST THE VERY FIRST THING ANY SMOG TECH DOES IS A VISUAL TO MAKE SURE ALL STOCK COMPONETS ARE THERE AND IF NOT HE WILL NEED AIR RESOURCE BOARD NUMBER STATING ITS 50 STATE LEGAL AND IS OKAY TO USE OTHER THAN THE OEM PART IT REPLACED SO if it has race or off road use only applications ITS NOT STREET LEGAL OR APPROVED BY AIR RESOURCE BOARD DONT LET ANY one TELL YOU OTHERWISE ASK THE TECH YOURSELF AND HE WILL SAY FIRST THING IS IT MUST PASS A VISUAL TEST OR YOU NEED TO SLIP THE TECH A FEW HUNDRED AND HAVE HIM DO IT ILLEGALLY WHICH IF CAUGHT RUINED HIM A S A MECHANIC AND YOUR BOTH HAVE A LOT OF EXPLAINING TO DO WHILE GETTING FINED THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS NOT TO MENTION POSSIBLE JAIL TERMS TO i own a test only in CA and its not worth doing it any other way except the right way sorry to much is on the line for that smog tech to play games

He needs to get some stock parts to pass. Not having stock parts is not a funny reason, smog shops have certain rules to follow so they dont get fined or charged for lying on legal documents. This is why modified cars can be a pain in the ***.

Hi so the facts are these new regulations brought by united states laws have deemed these facts to be why it fails a smog test. so tim to see old cars face these issues time after time. so as it is only fit now for race car racing and not highway use.
what do you expect from a 30 year old car.
