Some say the trinity was in Genesis, so this means the Jews did not believe the Word of God?

Don't you think that if the trinity doctrine were true, the word would be mentioned at least once in the Bible?

Don't you think Jesus would have explained it thoroughly to his disciples so that we, today, would understand?

We are told that the trinity is a mystery.

Romans 16:25 says that all the mysteries about Jesus have been reveled.

Romans 16:25-26 New International Version (NIV)

Now to him who is able to establish you in accordance with my gospel, the message I proclaim about Jesus Christ, in keeping with the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all the Gentiles might come to the obedience that comes from[a] faith—

So if the trinity doctrine is plainly explained in the Bible, then it must not be true.

The New Catholic Encyclopedia states: “The formulation ‘one God in three Persons’ was not solidly established, certainly not fully assimilated into Christian life and its profession of faith, prior to the end of the 4th century. But it is precisely this formulation that has first claim to the title the Trinitarian dogma. Among the Apostolic Fathers, there had been nothing even remotely approaching such a mentality or perspective.”—(1967), Vol. XIV, p. 299.

The concept of the Trinity was not formulated until at least 13 centuries after the writing of Genesis, so of course it's not explicitly present. Since the doctrine of the Trinity took into account the content of Genesis along with the rest of the Hebrew scripture and New Testament writings, it is possible to understand that doctrine as consistent with them.

But any attempt to claim the Trinity is explicitly mentioned in any book of the Bible is founded in intellectual sloppiness.

I concur the Jews did not believe all the inferences some people draw from the Bible, including Genesis and the rest of Hebrew scripture. But that's not the same thing. Including one's own inferences and assumptions in what one considers the "Word of God" is a form of self-idolatry.

There is no more tiresome error in the history of thought than to try to sort our ancestors on to this or that side of a distinction which was not in their minds at all. You are asking a question to which no answer exists.

I don't think the trinity is absolutely true. I can recognize the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit all as one God, but I think they go too far in saying God's nature is a trinity. I think God was just showing us he isn't limited like we are.

So if the Jews of more ancient times didn't have that revelation in some trinitarian way; that God would show up as a trinity, I do not fault them. Neither do I think it's okay for the Church to assume God is a trinity since God never called himself one.

If I fault one, wouldn't it be fair to fault the other?

The Jews do believe the Word of God, but in Genesis it's only written one God.

People can say what they like- it doesn't mean they are correct! Jews had and studied the Torah for 1500 years before Jesus and Christianity ever existed. It was written in their language and explained by their scholars. suddenly 1500 years people with beliefs that completely contradict what the Torah teach start claiming the Jews cannot understand their own language or read their own books... I think we can all see why the Jews just ignored the attempt of the Pagan influenced new religion to rewrite Jewish beliefs to suite their new religion!

Incorrect. The Trinity isn't directly revealed in the Old Testament, so saying they didn't believe it is not accurate.

Since the original questioner wants to block those with answers, it would help if the original questioner knew that the Jews believe in one God who has revealed Himself in different ways... just like the Christians have been saying. Only JWs are confused on this.

The Trinity is in Genesis and the scripture also says :Let those that have eyes to see let him see."

The blind definitely will lead the blind down the road of destruction--all who play both sides of the fence--hoping to create confusion and dissension.
