I'm no doctor however I've heard it's accurate but it can be difficult to have one prescribed to you because you have to meet a lot of certain qualifications such as being on Warfarin for more than 3 months, having consistent therapeutic INR levels, actually be diagnosed with some type of condition such as a mechanical valve or blood disorder such as blood clots that persist over a period of time, plus there not cheap and most companies will require you to test INR levels every week and check in with them as well at least compared to most doctors checking every 1 - 4 weeks.

But long story short, it's really something you should talk with your doctor and insurance company about but I'm not 100% sure if VA benefits will cover home testing as well.

The VA will cover it, my dad did home INR levels when he was alive.

However. it was really a pain. He was required to report his numbers each week to a company and when he missed, they called to take the supplies away. Once, he was in the hospital for surgery and the company supplying the machine was on the phone with us every other day wanting to retrieve it NOW.

But it was better than going to the hospital regularly for levels.
