A story my old friend told me, could it be Paranormal?

A friend of mine told me this one time when I said "There's No Such Thing as Ghosts." He said "Oh yes there is too." Then he told me a story about how he and his brother or cousin or something were playing out on the sidewalk beside the street when they saw approaching them a Black Man dressed as Santa Claus only he didn't have the hat on. They got scared since they never thought of Santa being Black so they ran inside their house and hid under the bed. According to him they could still see out the window and saw the Man or whatever walk by. He then turned to look at his little brother or whatever and his nose was bleeding. I remember asking him "So you think it was a Ghost?" He said "Yes I do."

Well, since the most probably explanation by far is that your friend simply made up this story, I see little point in analyzing the details. Depending on how old your friend was when he supposedly experienced this, he might not even realize that he made it up--five year olds can't distinguish between fantasy and reality, and often conflate dreams with waking experiences, and embellish real-life experiences without even realizing it. Add to that the demonstrable unreliability of memory, especially early childhood memories, and no further explanation is needed.

@ our anonymous answerer who has me blocked--while hypnagogia is a frequently plausible explanation, I don't see any reason to attribute this story to it. Why do you?

It could be nothing else but paranormal.  The living don't get nose bleeds, or walk down the street in the middle of the day.

what has this story got to do with ghosts ?
if your friend, believes in ghosts on the strength of that tale, then it just shows how fickle he is
there is no proof (if the story is true) that the man they saw was in-fact not just a man
