How do I keep a cool head about my younger sister?
She's 42 and mentally retarded. Mentally she's 13 unless she gets upset/angry for any reason...then she's mentally 5 years old.
Today she demanded that I go to the store to buy her 5 pints of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. She insisted on having at least 5 different flavors. I told her absolutely NOT b/c it's way too expensive ($5/pint in my area) and there's only $50 in the grocery budget until I get paid later this week. She screamed at me "I DON'T CARE!! I WANT BEN & JERRY'S NOW.....NO SUBSTITUTES!!!" I kept a firm stand...NO. She didn't let up. I finally told her okay...if you REALLY want it I'll get it for you BUT you have to pay for it out of your $30 monthly allowance. Whew...that's when the trouble REALLY started. She started screaming and hollering on an endless rant. By the time she quieted down an hour later I was crying like a baby b/c of all the horrible things she said. I still refused. Then she demanded that I use the $1600 I have in savings for her ice cream b/c she's more important than fixing my car's AC. Her exact words "I don't give a sh*t if you get sick and die from the heat you worthless b*tch...I WANT MY ICE CREAM!!!" My sister is REALLY good at making me feel like a worthless piece of trash.
Why do I need the AC?
1) I live in Texas and the temps in this area have been around 105F w/ a heat index of 110F.
2) When I have to go out running errands during the day by the time I get home I'm VERY sick..., a little disoriented, fast pulse, heavy sweating, headache, extremely flushed (looking like I got a sunburn), nauseated, a nasty headache, and shaking. When I finally get inside to check my body temp I'm running a fever of 103F.
..and my sis thinks I'm faking the whole sickness thing.
@Herp a derp Hiring someone isn't an option, I don't make that kind of money. She gets away with acting like that right now ONLY b/c dad is in a nursing facility for physical rehab after a nasty fall. I promised mom before she passed away that I would never abandon my sister or leave her in a home. As it is, my sister depends on me for everything...driving her around (right now she refuses to go out b/c no AC in the car), cooking her meals, doing her laundry, etc.

My sister can't do all the everyday things I do. She doesn't have the mental capacity to be able to drive a car. She never does any cooking b/c she's terrified of open flames and heat from the countertop oven. ...so terrified that she won't go anywhere near the kitchen if she knows I'm in there cooking.
@mokrie If I did that she would have called the cops on me.
@MetalQueen You didn't say anything I didn't already know. FYI...the car is going for service BEFORE I get paid. btw...didn't your mother ever tell you if you have nothing nice or helpful to say to keep your mouth shut?

You caused the problem yourself by not keeping a clear head when your sister started her tantrum. She clearly doesn't have the capacity to understand finances so you'll have to be the one to "sacrifice". Go get your sister her ice cream and put the money back when you get paid. ..and just put the car repairs off until the following week. I don't think a few extra days of no AC is going to kill you....just go out at night when its cooler.

You need help. Like, hire someone to come help you with her. Or ******* leave, she's 42 and you're not her mom. Just because she's mentally handicapped doesn't mean she's not a 42 year old woman. She is NOT stable.

Quit being such a selfish b-i-t-c-h. Go get your sister her damn ice cream and then put the money back in savings when you get paid. Geez. Are you so wrapped up in yourself that you couldn't figure it out on your own?
