am curious why many churches wish to claim "because the bible states the world is only 7,500 yrs old,?

Update:

the facts that we have Native American nations that are 15,000 yrs

and plate tectonics that show continents moving and a lot more--

what is so horrible for a church to admit that the planet is

billions of years old instead of 7,500?

There was this idiot Bishop who told everyone that he 'calculated' based on the lives of the saints, that there had only been around 6500 years since creation. And being gullible, and a little desperate, and easy to convince, many churches started preaching that garbage, and lots of folks without a great deal of critical thinking skills believed them.

they are trying to prove the bible is a real historical text on life.

whereas i believe that the metaphysical is only metaphorical.

if only one person were completely free to believe what-ever they wanted, then it would be OK. suppose that one person gives such a distorted view of life as to upset the true nature of life; would that then be a problem?

i believe it is. it is a big problem for a great many people who have to live with the distorted values of christian religions being forced upon them.

no just in one day or one week, but over an entire life-time, we hear the christian religion just about every day. it might have the effect of brain-washing unless one looks at the reality of what they are saying and what is actually true.

reality as truth speaks louder than words.

Short answer: some people many years ago, added up the ages in the Bible to come up with a number then added appropriate years from early recorded history to that.

    Long answer: The Jewish calendar.

Because they and others are fighting over "mental real estate". Meaning they want you to believe that they're the ones who are correct because if you believe that then they have control and power and influence and get lots of money. Scientists are just trying to find truth and are compiling much evidence to support their claims whereas the church just wants you to believe their lies. The simple answer to this question is "ignorance". .

They are fundamentalists and believe every world in the Bible is absolute. So they count back the heritage, adding up the ages of the prophets, etc and came up with that number.
