What is the magnitude of the centripetal acceleration of an object on the surface of the Earth at a latitude of 73.0°? Consider the Earth to be a sphere of radius R = 6.38 ✕ 10^6 m.

    centripetal acceleration 'ac' is

    ac = ω²r

    ac = [(2π rad / 24hr) / (3600 s/hr)]² * 6.38(10^6)cos73.0

    ac = 9.86(10^-3) m/s²
