How can you be a liberal christian that supports gay rights, when you know very well the cruel anti-gay dogma condoned by christianity ?

I understand very well that the people supporting gay rights know that homophobia is a crime against humanity, and i believe that you as humans are BETTER than that ugly insane and immoral book for understanding that gays are humans too and they should be treated as such.

Update:

How can one live with that constant feeling of hypocrisy it's a mystery to me.

How can you be an anything knowing that cruel anti-gay dogma has condoned by every group except homosexuals?

The answer is that your beliefs are your beliefs, not the beliefs of everyone.

Surely you are not suggesting that the atheists that had cruel anti-gay dogma in the USSR and China, means you can't be an atheist and support gay rights.

    Edit:

And what are you trying to accomplish? Do you want Christians to be anti-gay or do you want Christian who support gay rights to stop being Christian?

I honestly do not see how your logic could accomplish either of these goals.

There are Christians who promulgate anti-gay dogma. And there are Christians who reject that, and observe that it has no valid connection with the beliefs that make Christianity Christian. For one thing, although we've got four different accounts, combining material from at least five or six first-century sources, of the teaching of the man we call Christ--and all four regarded as authoritative by Christian leadership--not one of those contains a single word expressing any animosity toward gays.

So your description, "condoned by Christianity," would be more accurately phrased "condoned by some Christians." And other Christians do not condone it, and actively oppose it, and remain Christian nevertheless. There is no hypocrisy involved, at least among the opponents of anti-gay prejudices.

A few years ago--before a Supreme Court ruling rendered the matter moot--there was an attempt to elevate a prohibition against same-sex marriage to a Constitutional amendment in my state. It was promoted and heavily funded by Christians, notably the Catholic Church. But it was defeated in an election--the first time that had happened--and that defeat was engineered by an organized opposition that was also heavily Christian (and Jewish) and included organized Catholics.

"Christianity" is not a set of beliefs. It is a general label for a wide range of different beliefs. There are billions of Christians and therefore there are billions of different Christian belief systems. Disagreeing with each other doesn't involve "hypocrisy"; it involves thinking for ourselves, which many of us do.

How can you be a liberal christian that supports gay rights, when you know very well the cruel anti-gay dogma condoned by christianity ?

--- The liberal Christians I know believe that sin must be avoided by choice, because you sincerely desire to be close to God....avoiding sin because you fear prison is not a path to salvation.

The see "render unto Caesar" and "my kingdom is not of this world" to mean that God's moral law does not need to be made Man's legal code. They are separated. And using police to force people obey God is the sign of a weak and insincere faith.

HOMOSEXUALITY IS AN ABOMINATION TO THE LORD OUR GOD AND

HE DOES NOT CONDONE IT AND NEITHER CAN HIS FOLLOWERS, CALL IT ANYTHING YOU WANT, BUT NOTHING IMPURE WILL EVER ENTER HEAVEN THAT GOES FOR ADULTERERS ETC AND THE ONLY WAY TO BECOME PURE AGAIN IS TO TURN TO JESUS FOR FORGIVENESS WITH A SINCERE AND HUMBLE HEART AND HE WILL CLEANSE YOUR SOUL INSTANTLY. BUT REFUSUAL TO DO THIS IS USING YOUR FREE WILL TO SAY I LOVE THE LUSTFUL MORTAL SINS MORE THAN I LOVE GOD. HENCE THIS WARNING>>

In Jude 1:5-10, St. Jude warns us all about what will happen to the unbelievers, who revile God:

"Now I desire to remind you, though you were once for all fully informed, that he who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels that did not keep their own position but left their proper dwelling have been kept by him in eternal chains in the nether gloom until the judgment of the great day; But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, disputed about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a reviling judgment upon him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you." But these men revile whatever they do not understand, and by those things that they know by instinct as irrational animals do, they are destroyed." just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise acted immorally and indulged in unnatural lust, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.Yet in like manner these men in their dreamings defile the flesh, reject authority, and revile the glorious ones.

Notice also in the above Word of God that practicing homosexuals and the lustful who do not repent before death do not get a pass.

Gay marriage is not right for children, so I cannot condone it. The vast majority of people that I have known throughout my life have acknowledged gays being human and have protected their rights for housing, employment, etc. We draw the line at gay marriage

What does Christ Himself say about exactly this kind of question?

    -->

...3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

11 “No one, sir,” she said.

“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

    -------

This must be "Christian" -- it is from Christ -- even if only a few followed it. But many do actually.

I'd definitely feel hypocritical if I did *not* follow this teaching from Christ.

Becouse Christians, just like every other group out there, do not all fit in the same box. So stop judging them like they are and take them one at a time, based on who they are.

'cruel anti-gay dogma' you mean God calling the homosexual act an abomination?

I was already having a hard time dealing with myself and then I read the Bible. Much less now I just gave up dealing with myself and don't think about it.
