Why don't SUV owners and others go to a super smart mechanic and have the vehicle converted to solar and methanol instead of gas.?

    Solar - Etremely high cost to convert.

    Methanol - Lack of readily available fuel.

    These conversions are risky and will void your warranty. For solar, you need a huge amount of surface area to do anything and you'll need to run on battery power when the sun isn't shining. As for methanol, you have to modify the entire engine to deal with it. Methanol is only currently being used by idiots who are too cheap to get a nitrous system. Plus, where are you going to source the fuel from? Its production is going to be at the expense of food production - if you support the use of methanol, you're like those morons who supported the use of ethanol as fuel 10 years ago.

    Solar = Expensive, short range.

    Methanol = Poor performance, use of food products resulting in higher food costs, not enough supply.

    Go diesel as we do in Europe 30% more energy in the same amounr of fuel. Just perhaps not a VW at present.
