I MISSED THE DEADLINE TO SIGN UP FOR THE PSAT PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!?
I'm a sophomore and we take the test tomorrow!!! I was home with strep throat so I wasn't there when we signed the form! I know how important this is it determines if you get into the national merit society! Is there really nothing I can do??? I really don't think it's fair that because I missed school for 1 day I can't take the test! It's really stressing me out, and there are gonna make me sit in the gym all day when other people are taking the test.

I looked this up on the National Merit Society website.
"A total of about 50,000 participants receive recognition in the National Merit® Scholarship Program."
Do you realize that the chances of being one of those 50,000 is very little?
I looked this up as well. About 3.5 million students take the PSAT every year.
That's a sad 1.4% chance of being in NMS.
Anyways, you still have one more chance. Take it in junior year. The NMS website also said this:
"Although some schools encourage their sophomores to take the PSAT/NMSQT for guidance purposes, these students must take the test again when they are juniors to enter the National Merit Scholarship Program if they are spending the usual four years of study in grades 9 through 12."
You'd have to take it again anyways even if you did pass. Although they didn't specify whether the second time had to be just as good as the first time.
The website also said this:
"A student who does not take the PSAT/NMSQT because of illness, an emergency, or other extenuating circumstance, but meets all other requirements for NMSC program participation, may still be able to enter the competition. The student or a school official must write to NMSC as soon as possible after the PSAT/NMSQT administration to request information about procedures for entry to the National Merit Scholarship Program by alternate testing. The earlier NMSC receives the written request, the greater the student's opportunities for meeting alternate entry requirements. To be considered, a request must be postmarked no later than March 1 following the PSAT/NMSQT administration that was missed. NMSC will provide alternate entry materials that require the signature of a school official."
So it's not the end of the world, yet. Good for you.
