Car loses power?

Went and spent $300 buying a new alternator and battery cause oreillys told me I needed them and for some reason when I try to start my car it barely starts and then completely loses power.. Not sure what's wrong. Took it to a mechanic here where I live and they couldn't find the problem they tried hooking a car computer up but it wouldn't pick up my car for some reason so now they want me to take it elsewhere. I drive a 1999 Mitsubishi eclipse rs 2.0 4cyl

There's a fusible link in the engine compartment fuse box that blows if someone jumps a battery backwards. It's one of the larger fuses and my be held in with a couple of screws. If that's not it either the wiring is corroded or broken. The computer does not control the alternator on your car so if the wiring and fusible links are ok I'd suspect you got a bad rebuilt alternator from Oriellys. Their parts are not known for quality.

A cheap digital meter checking voltage at the battery will tell you if the alt is bad... Car off, the voltage should be around 13 volts. When the ca ris running, it should be 2-3 volts higher (indicates the alt is charging).

    How old is the alt?

    How old is the battery?

Are the battery terminals clean or corroded?
